Thailand

It’s been about 6 years since we went to Thailand. We flew into Bangkok, where we stayed for several days before heading down south for an adventurous boat ride to the island of Koh Mak. I’m still at a loss for words to describe Bangkok, especially Bangkok at the end of Monsoon season, thick with a heat and humidity that no one can ever prepare you for. Overwhelming. Exhilarating. Sensory overload. Sensory delight. I want to go back, more prepared to explore.

The contrasts were incredible, like contrast between tradition and modernity (temples scattered all throughout the Central Business District, temples full of offerings and flowers and buddhas with huge billboards selling high end fashion and expensive watches in the background). Skycrapers and tall towers across the river where shack houses on stilts dotted the riverbanks of the canals. The gold of the Grand Palace contrasted against the silver of steel and glass.
